I had been sending out emails to various greenhouses around Western NY looking to do drone work for them. If this is your first time looking at any of my online work, flying a drone for greenhouses may sound like an oddity. 3 years ago I would have thought the same thing! When I decided to get into this line of work, greenhouses were so far off of my radar for businesses that might want aerial work so as not to exist. The funny thing is…I was solicited by a greenhouse owner FIRST (not Patrick Ponto, a local nursery).

At any rate, after flying the drone and capturing stunning aerial AND indoor shots for my FIRST customer, I was kinda hooked. Patrick was (I believe) my 3rd greenhouse customer. He was quite happy with the results, as was I.

Eternally grateful to Massi’s Greenhouse and their staff, particularly, Cass Galusha. They were my first paying customer upon receiving my part 107 License (what you need to be a commercial drone pilot/photographer/videographer). And…flying through the greenhouses was actually their idea, not mine. They approached me with the idea and, at first….not going to lie….., I was hesitant. Not only was it my first paying gig but also, the thought of flying a drone through such tight quarters and having to dodge fans and support wires was slightly intimidating! But the short version of the end-of-the-story is that it all turned out better than ok. Massi’s still uses my footage (which, at the time of this writing is about 3 years old). They also used the video footage to produce a commercial on local TV.
