We’ve got the magnificent Finger Lakes themselves, we have stunning wineries that line up all along those lakes, we have gorgeous state parks (Letchworth anyone?) just to name a few. And we also have places of historical significance galore.
For someone into drones – and especially someone licensed and insured that can legally be hired to do work, this area is nothing less than a grown up playground!
Building the Center For Mark Twain Studies website AND Flying Over Mark Twain’s Quarry Farm
About 6 months ago (from the time of this writing) I was approached by the Director of The Center for Mark Twain Studies (part of Elmira College) to rebuild their website (they had found my ‘sister business website’ Thirsty Fish Graphic Design). I agreed to the project.
The first thing I noticed when I took a look at the website they had at the time was some drone footage approaching the East Hill in Elmira, NY and stopping just at the famous porch of Quarry Farm.
So when I accepted the job of rebuilding the website, I also offered a package of re-shooting the drone footage as well as doing lots of additional aerial footage all around the Quarry Farm property.
I offered this for two reasons:
The first reason was two-fold and was entirely selfish: What an opportunity for myself! Not just for the bragging rights because….how fun! Not to mention I got a full tour of the inside of the house from both the Director as well as the property’s caretaker. Double bonus!
The second reason was that, at some point after the original drone footage was shot, Quarry Farm was able to acquire some furniture for that famous front porch that was far more in line the time period in which Mark Twain / Sam Clemens lived there and it just seemed appropriate to re-shoot based on that detail alone.
In the video below you’ll find hours worth of flight time condensed into about 2 minutes! Also, please note the picture gallery below the video, too, just shy of the end of this article.
I hope you enjoy!
